How to prevent storm damage to your roof and fix a leak in the rain.

Your roof is very important and if you maintain it, you’ll save money in the long run. Not only does it protect you from the elements, it protects everything inside your home. One tiny hole in your roof is a BIG problem.   When a big rain storm passes and your roof is damaged you’ll know about it and usually by that time it’s caused major damage.  That is why preventing storm damage is so important to the things in your home and your bank account.

Certain areas of your roof are more susceptible to leaks. Areas like vents, chimneys, and skylights all need to be inspected extra carefully.  If you’re not careful walking around these areas, you can cause punctures to the lining underneath, creating damage that will get worse over a periods of months and sometimes years.  Seals also need to be replaced regularly, especially in Arizona where the weather gets extremely hot and dry. The rubber seal around skylights deteriorate much faster here, than in a milder climate.

Does your house have a Roof Drip Edge?

Some roofers skip this step when installing a roof either because they forget or are cutting corners. Either way, it’s an important part of the roof that will guide water and debris down the roof and away from the home.  The fascia which is the outer lining right under the roof and house can be damaged if the Roof Drip Edge is missing or not functioning properly.

Sometimes the leak isn’t coming from your roof.
